I've heard that Lexapro is much more mild than other drugs of it's kind but I am still nervous about taking it, as I have never taken any of these type of medications. I am very phobic of vomiting so I wanted to ask if vomiting is a common side-effect of Lexapro. Nausea is listed on the website but not vomitting specifically. Also, about how long does it take for the side effects to wear off? Would I feel normal after a few weeks or would the side effects persist the whole time I take the medication? Basially I just would like to know what to expect for side-effects and how long they would last. Also, my doctor told me that there are no withdrawal symptoms from Lex but I've read here that people have had some bad ones, so I would like some opinions on that if possible. Thank you so much for responding. I'm about to make another post about my story but this post is specifically so that I can get some info about the drug itself and it's effects. Thanks so much!!

Hey there...
I was on Lexapro for awhile, so I'll try to help you out the best I can. Lets see....Nausea, yes. It does happen. BUT not to the point you actually DO throw up, so you don't have to fret about that! And the nausea is not the "I have to stay home and not move off of the couch" kind of nausea, it's totally bearable. I would call it more like...queasy :)
As for the side effects, they are not all that bad, and they only last like, 2 weeks, 3 weeks tops. Really the only side effects I dealt with were dry mouth and a little bit of a belly ache at first.
Bottom line is that they are different for every one. If something that seems really unusual happens, contact your doctor. But other than that, RELAX! It's not all that bad. :)

I've been on Lexapro 10mg/day for about 9 months now and have not experienced any nausea or stomach problems. I take it in the morning, right after breakfast, so maybe that helps, I'm not sure.
As for side-effects, I haven't experienced too many, not enough to make me switch to a different med. Withdrawal? Haven't stopped taking it (but have ramped down to 5mg/day for a couple of weeks) and didn't experience any withdrawal.
Hope this helps!

Currently taking 30mg Lexapro for over 2 months. First 2 weeks were bad for me in that I felt so tired that I just wanted to sleep. However, week 3 to 4, I had the opposite effect. I just could not sleep. My pdoc Rxed Ambien which took care of that, but I was still feeling fatigued. On day 45 (just over 6 weeks), I realized that my unipolar depression was all but gone. It has been over 2 months and my depression is gone. I still am fatigued and take Benadryl at bedtime to help me sleep. Hopefully, in time, the fatigueness will decrease. I started at 10mg of Lexapro and am still on 30mg currently. Other side effects were slight headaches and loss of appettite (acutally lost 10 lbs.). Also, I did not experience any sexual side effects. I am male. Good luck.

Hi krisdance,
I have been taking 10mg of lex for just under 3 months. I never felt sick to my stomach once. My biggest side effects for the first month were foggy headedness, a temporary increase in anxiety, dizziness and headaches. Oh and inability to orgasm. They have all subsided - except for the dizziness which I think is due to a million other things (i am a hpochondriac!) - but i have felt less anxious taking lex and side effects are fine now.
Best of luck to you!

Hi,
When I started on 10mg of Lex I too was terrified of the vomiting. I was nauseous for about two weeks after I started and I never vomited. I found that if I had an empty stomach it was worse so try to keep your tummy a little full for the first while. Im coming off the Lex now because im trying to get pregnant. I tapered off 5mg for 10 days the 2.5 for 10 days and there were hardly any side effects. The only thing I noticed were a few "brain zaps" Nothing I cant handle. Lex really worked for me.
If you need to chat some more post again.
Good luck!!

You have really eased my mind. I can handle the nausea because I've been nauseous anyway but I just cannot voimit. I know that everyone reacts differently but I am more confident now that you all have told me your stories. Thanks so much. Would you mind telling me what you took the med for? I have OCD and some anxiety. The doctor tells me that the Lex will take care of the physical symptoms that I'm feeling due to low serotonin, but I didn't know that low serotonin COULD cause phsyical problems. Any idea?
