I have just started Buspar for anxiety and fear. I like it very well so far. It feels like a good alternative to Klonopin. I really want to hear about other people's experiences with it. Amounts taken, duration of doses, timing of doses and any side effects, especially from longterm use. I'd love to hear from some people who have taken it for a while.Tell me all you know. Thanks

I took buspar in conjunction with effexor for my depression and anxiety associated with BipolarII, GAD, and panic attacks. The buspar worked a treat - EXCEPT - I had very painful headaches that did not resolve themselves after several weeks. Aside from that, it did seem to quell my depression effectively. At the time I was very miserable at not arriving quickly at the correct med and dosage yet. I had been taking 10mg in the morning, and 20mg at night, for a total of 30mg per day. I was quite disappointed because I felt so much better otherwise.
We switched to Wellbutrin and that seems to have done the trick. headaches vanished and this med has complemented the effexor well.
good luck,
pc

I was on Buspar for a month to help with anxiety (I was at the time taking Wellbutrin for depression). I don't think the Buspar really did anything. I also had the side effect that it made me tired - but that could have been from the small dose of Elavil that was also supposed to help the anxiety.
Now I just take a little Klonopin (0.25 - 0.5 mg per day) and it works perfectly fine.

Hi:
Buspar was one of the many drugs I've tried to treat GAD. Unfortunately, it did absolutely nothing for me at all, up to 30mg. I was honestly unaware that I was taking a drug!. The positive was, that I just stopped it cold after about 7-8 weeks with no withdrawal effects. So, from that point of view, it might be worth trying, in that it's painless to stop, if it doesn't work. Unlike many other meds!!!
Another thing to note. It has been recorded that benzo users have poorer or no response to Buspar. I took Klonopin before trying Buspar (and I note that you do too). This might be why it didn't work for me. So I'm back on my good ole' Klon.!
Good luck.

I tried it once years ago and find it helped at all (but maybe I didn't give it enough time to kick in). You can get some more information on people's experiences with Buspar from the following website: www.remedyfind.com. People who have used the drug (and other drugs for that matter) rate it and provide comments.

Thank you for your responses. My Pdoc said Buspar had the fewset side effects of any med, but the joke going around about it was that it also had the least effect of any med.
However I think it is helpful to me.
The link to www.remedyfind.com was very helpful.
This is the end of the thread.
