Does anyone know the best medication to take with Prozac for anxiety? I've tried all the other SSRI's and only Prozac works for my depression, however, it causes me to be anxious and agitated. I take Ativan but I wondered if there was something that could be taken with Prozac that would last all day instead of having to take the Ativan several times during the day. Karen

The only thing that I can think of is Strattera or Ritalin, or a different stimulant. These drugs have a calming effect on many people (but not all) and are often taken with antidepressants such as Prozac.
My antidepressant is Lexapro. Several months a go I needed something to calm me down. I added Strattera and it did (and still does) make me more calm and focused.

Hi, I take prozac too. I also take a mood stablizer drug (lamictal) and was taking xanax, which helped the anxiety. But my pdoc just switched me to ativan also and I feel like I have to take alot (like you) to feel the benifits. I tried klonopin, but it made me sleepy and caused depression...
Good Luck

>Hi Karen,
I like 5-HT2A antagonists for my anxiety, only problem is that a lot of people gain weight on them. Drugs that are 5-HT2A antagonists are most of the antipsychotics, most of the old TCA antidepressants, Trazodone & Remeron. If weight gain is a problem I would try Trazodone or Nortriptyline.
Cheers,
Paul.

Neurontin was a helpful add-on to help w/ my anxiety. Doesn't work for everyone, but maybe worth asking about.
Also (and I don't know much about this) maybe a non-SSRI would be a better med choice for you. Effexor or a TCA?
