I've been trying to taper off the tiny dose (3.75 mg) of Zyprexa I take for anxiety. I'm down to 2.5 mg. The first effects were difficulty sleeping and increased anxiety, but those have receded. However, my depression has increased to the point of suicidality. I'm better today, thankfully, but yesterday was hell. My symptoms wax and wane of their own accord, but I'm wondering if this particular episode is due to the reduction in Zyprexa. I'm also taking Marplan, Cytomel (thyroid), Neurontin (night time only), and Florineff (keeps my BP up).
Second question: Is there a drug I can substitute for Zyprexa that doesn't cause weight gain? I'm afraid to weigh myself, but I think I've gained 15-20 lb. I took Risperdal for several months, but it didn't do much.

A lot of people, including myself, find that zyprexa does have antidepressant properties (Im starting to feel like a drug rep for zyprexa on this board). Other atypicals also supposedly have antidepressant properties. Geodon and Abilify both seem good in that regard (from what Ive read), and dont usually lead to much, if any, weight gain. Abilify might aggravate anxiety though, in the beginning at least.

Defenitly the reduction in zyprexa. I hear Geodon will not cause weight gain, but will sedate you.
I never had any luck reducing my zyprexa, for the same reasons as you. I have managed to keep my weight down, with just pure will power not to over eat. I'm also taking bupropion sr now, which helps to make the weight loss easyer, and ups my energy.

I took risperdal for depression and rumination, it seemed to help quite a bit; I switched to Geodon due to fatigue and weight gain and have been fairly happy--no weight gain, the biggest bother is a slight foggy feeling. But I take the dose early evening and then it interferes less with my life. It seems to be great anxiolytic for me. I take 40mg.
