Dear Dr, I was a heavy daily drinker before I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar1 last year. As soon as I started on the Depakote, I lost all craving for alcohol, just overnight. Have you heard of this before? It still is the same one year later.
Thank You

Hi
Im not a dr., but I thought I could reply to you anyway :-)I have heard that Depakote is used to prevent alcohol abuse relapse, so I guess what you are experiencing is a positive "side effect" of the drug. Try searching in google, you might find some interesting artclies about it.
In addition.. maybe your bipolar disease gave you the urge to drink, and by reducing or getting rid of the symptoms of your bipolar problems, you might also get rid of the urge to drink. But I think I would bet on the first I said :-)
Good luck.
