Ok well with all SSRI's you will get the sexual side effects. Of course I have that. I also had some good days and some bad days on the stuff, I am also a girl though who's chemicals shift a bit befor my period. These things are so minor compared to how bad I was feeling a year ago. I thought I was losing my mind, Crying constantly for no reason, Horribly depressed and wanted to killmyself. I have done a complete 180 in the past year. I still get occasional anxiety but I am also under a lot of stress with school and work. Everyone gets anxiety and you just need to learn how to manage/deal with it. I feel that if it were not for the Effexor I would have been a mess for a lot longer than I was.
For all the people out there who think there is no hope....THERE IS HOPE!!! You just need to find the right med that works for you. Good luck! Robyn

I whole heartedly agree Robyn. There is a medication or combination of meds that will help or stabilize nearly everyone. A cautious approach needs to be taken in the early phases of medication however. ADs and APs etc. can be slow to take effect and often are poopooed because they are not given enough or too much which sometimes causes ineffectivity or if too much, then horrendous side effects. I have been reading the entries on this forum for a year and a half and often see comments like this " I took 5mg for 3 days and it hasn't helped at all". Well it may not work completely for 2 months if the truth be told. I think patients should be advised that they need to be patient and give it time if it doesn't work right away and warned to discontinue it if bad side effects show up shortly after starting the drug. Unfortunately they are not always given the quality advice that they are paying for.

When I first started Effexorxr I was upset that it did not work right away. It took about 2 weeks. I just had to trust my psychiatrist and hope for the best. I felt sick to my stomach for the first few weeks also. This was because there was a foreign substance in my belly that my body did not like. I adjusted though and feel fine.
People just need to trust their doctors (psychiatrists) because this is their study and they know a lot more about the drugs than you do. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS!!! DO lots of research (but dont trust all of it) just because some of it is not true or the people saying bad things may have had a different effect from the med.
I am almost completely healed and most of it is because of the meds I have been on. They have helped to stabalize me and I am greatful to them and my doctor!

I've been on it since May, started out at 150mg and am up to 300mg and so far, so good. I know that the dose is high and I am aware of withdrawl side effects, I had them with Paxil.
Paxil kicked out, I bought a new house, lost my job and went into a suicidal depression. Effexor worked for me. And unlike with Paxil, I have no sexual side effects. Or weight gain. So far it's great.
Maybe it's only the three of us, but it looks like Effexor XR is not a demon to everyone.
