I have a strange dilemma I have not seen addressed on this site. I have OCD, and realized part of the OCD involves obsessive worrying and fear about side-effects from the very meds being prescribed for the condition.
Every time I am prescribed a med, I spend hours on the Internet [including here] reading every side effect, and wondering if I will get it. Then I obssess that the med is going to harm me in some way. Then 5 minutes after taking the med, I feel like my throat is closing up; I get dizzy; my ears start ringing.
For this reason, it's very hard for me to try new meds, and to stay on them. I haven't heard this addressed specifically here [though, in a way, maybe our use of this site every time we start a new med is a sign of just that: maybe "normal" people just trust their doc, take the med, not read and research, and just see if it works [which would probably be the best thing for me to do.]
Just wondering what thoughts any of you have on this?

I do tend to worry about taking new meds and act sort of like a hypochondriac when I start them, but I am not really OCD. You should read some of the previous posts by "crazychick" and the responses to them.

of having difficulty when I actaully decide to take the med. I go online and research everything quite thoroughly and have been frightened by much of what I've found. I am now on Cymbalta, clonazepam and doxepin and have found MUCH relief from the anxiety caused by my OCD behaviors.
Good luck!

I know what you mean, but I'm not quite at that level. Have managed to stay on Remeron, Wellbutrin and Ativan with relatively okay results, but Mr. Doc had to have a lot of patience to convince me to start on very low dosages and increase ever so gradually.
Still, I don't want to try anything new.
This is the end of the thread.
