So I started to withdraw off Paxil last Tuesday (At a dose of 10 mg for the past 5 years). The first 3 days, I noticed nothing except every once in a while, these strange... well I can't really explain them. It's like this... extremely short zap sort of feeling, that sort of radiates outwards from my chest and into my eyes and head. It's not like the "zaps" that I have heard so much about, originating in the head, and the whirring sound, it's very odd and I can't explain it. Sometimes when I breathe deeply, I feel like this odd feeling in my body. Saturday I was bad. I got extreme withdrawal, had a couple times of saying something I didn't mean to, emotional swings like I've never felt, and then feeling emotions so intensly, it actually was pleasant at times. The numbness that Paxil had induced, felt like it had stopped and at times I felt such intense emotions it was amazing. I also had some cold/hot flashes.
I slept for 17 hours yesterday, and I woke up feeling great. I get these intense feeling of drowsiness at times, slight headaches, slight inability to concentrate at times, but not NEARLY as bad as many other people have reported.
I was just wondering how long the withdrawal symptoms usually last, and how long until I should drop lower. I don't know whether to do 5-2.5 or go cold turkey (as I dropped from 10-5 on Tuesday).
I know you all will say "ask your Psyc" but I don't trust the man as far as I can throw him. He put me on this medication for the past 5 years when I didn't even need it, and it's just ruined my life.
Just looking for some feedback. :)

My advice would be to go a slowly as possible. I took 50mg for 2yrs and getting off of it was a nightmare. And usually I am pretty tolerant of side effects etc., but this was something else. AND, I should add that I was switching paxil for prozac which is supposed to cut down on w/drawal. I kid you not that at the end of my tapper off I was cutting a 10 mg in half, that half in half, and that half in half (I think that makes a 1.75mg dose). I must say that I am good w/ a pill cutter!
So going slowly will help. I also used a little ativan to take the edge off of the w/drawal. If it gets bad, see if your pdoc could do that for you. Also, they can prescribe Paxil in liquid form in order to make it easier to take small doses.
Take it easy and best of luck!

I got off paxil using alot of advice from www.quitpaxil.org. I used motion sickness pills for nausea, sleeping pills to sleep, vitamin b-12 and st. john wort. I was bad but it does get better.

Hi,
I used prozac to help me get of paxil and had no withdrawal symptoms. I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms when I came off prozac!
