Paxil CR

Posted by libbyann on December 6, 2004, at 16:20:57

Hi - I'm on Paxil CR (after Gabitril, Lexapro, and Zyprexa didn't work) for depression and anxiety. I'm on about day 10 and feel a little droopy and anxious. Do any of you with experience with Paxil know about this? I read somewhere that the anxiety can increase a bit as the body gets used to Paxil. Has anyone had experience with this? Will this even out? I'm just kind of anxious and it's frustrating. Help?

I'm just on 12.5 per day and it's day 11. I know it's not fully in my system and doing it's thing just yet. I'm just having what I'm hoping are side effects that will fade... Have you taken it?

i was on paxil for three years. 12.5 seems like a wierd dose. i was on 20, 40, and then finally 60 mg daily. is your pdoc planning to up the dose gradually? it is a good idea to go on it gradually. it took me about a month before i really noticed my anxiety and depression start to go down. it did work very well for me, i eventually quit b/c of sexual side effects and just feeling like i didn't need it anymore.

eleven days is too soon to tell how much it is going to help you. i did have some increased anxiety too at first, i think. i have also been on Gabitril and i think that the paxil works better for anxious depression. you seem to be on a low dose, you might want to talk to your pdoc about uping the dose if you don't feel any better in two more weeks. the waiting is frustrating, i know. good luck!

12.5mg is a standard dose for the CR version of Paxil.

I've got samples from my doc and have had them for a week, but am trying to find a day to start it where I'm not busy in case I have any weird side effects.

Did you feel okay when you took your first dose?

Yeah - I felt great, actually. The first two days, I felt nothing, but days 3 and 4 were like I was on some cloud. I actually was worried that it might become addictive because I felt so good. Then on day 5, I seemed to crash - had a massive panic attack. Since then, the anxiety has been there, but not so severe. It seems to lessen, but that's kind of hard to measure sometimes. Uh-oh. Gotta go to a meeting. More later! :)
