Is this drug released yet? Is anyone taking it? Can I volunteer for a study?

Hi,
It's not available in the UK but I don't know about anywhere else. It's very similar to buspirone (BuSpar). Have you tried BuSpar?

As far as I know, another similar drug called tandospirone (Seriel) is available in Japan!

I believe gepirone has been withdrawn from the FDA approval process, meaning it probably will never be released. I don't know the reason, but it isn't necessarily lack of efficacy. Flesinoxan, which looked to be a very promising antidepressant with no sexual side effects, was withdrawn from consideration by its manufacturer a few years ago for reasons that appeared to have nothing to do with either its efficacy or any risk potential. It seemed to be purely a business decision, one that was unfortunate for us.

I wanted to enroll in a Gepirone study, but instead was put into a different study for Treatment Resistant Depression.
When I asked my doctor )who was involved with both studies) several months later how the Gepirone study had turned out, he said that it was very dissapointing and that people taking Gepirone hadn't shown any improvement over those taking a placebo (he may have even said that they did worse - can't quite remember, but at any rate it was not a success). I hadn't heard that the drug was pulled from the approval process, as the previous poster mentioned, but I would not be surprised given my doctor's experience with the drug.
