I am seriously considering flying to the USA to see a Pdoc there.
The reason is that care is so poor in the UK, especially for people with ADD like me!Does anyone have any opinions/experience about this?

Sorry to offer an opinion in the form
of a question, but it may reveal something
you should find out; i.e., don't all doctors
follow policies in their practice, rather
than choose their own way? I think i posted
something similar earlier about the Associations
of Physicians binding medical practice to
prescription guidelines and laws. So, if that is true, you may find variation
from country to country, but not doctor to doctor.Squiggles

I too have been thinking about going to the States from the UK for a month to try and get to the bottom of my problem.
Im 99.9% convinced i could cure my depression and social anxiety with an anti-convulsent/klonopin and Ritalin/Concerta/Adderall dual therapy.
That unfortunately is simply NOT going to be prescribed over here.

I am in a similar position to Daniel, I'm wondering about being prescribed an MAOI and a stimulent to tackle my dual problem of social anxiety and ADD.
This is all but impossible in the UK but there are docs in the US who would do it.Unfortunatly the prospect of going to the US is daunting, especialy because my parents think that the best solution to my problems is simply to ignore them!
Good luck Daniel, it sounds like a good plan

I have a son that lives in England so I know about the horrible medical field. If you will give me your e-mail address I will write more as to where you may be able to go to get help. I went to 2 pdr's & all they did was try this or try this. Finally I went to my interist whom I have been seeing for 10 yrs. & he helped me. He takes the time to talk to you-and it's not the 15 min. appt. you get with the pdr's.
I know how miserable you must be.

Can't you just see a private doc in the UK? I called my old doc (london) and he said there would be no problem
Understandably, it is outrageously expensive, but still cheaper than the alternative, no?

Hi,
I went over to Laguna Niguel in November 2000.
Had a 2 hour consultation with Dr Jensen, it cost me $300 plus flights and accomodation.
Considering I had spent a fortune on alternatives, therapy and the like, and had been off work for 2 years it was the best money I ever spent.
I also spent £250 a shot seeing "the best" the UK had to offer - some best!! They knew less than I did - I am not joking!Go over, just make sure you find a good one to see, ask our American friends.

I've often wondered about this. But how would you be able to get your prescriptions filled in the UK after being treated by a US doc?

Hi Glenn,
Was it you who went to see Dr Jenson and who was recommended to try Adderall? What did you get out of the visit exactly did it enlighten you in any way about your condition?

Hi Glenn,
sorry, yes I knew it was something calming. So what did he base his recommendations on? Did he show you the scan of your Brain or something and show you what he thought the problem was?
