Is Klonopin considered a potent benzo?

Posted by mmcconathy on December 29, 2004, at 22:48:23

At first i thought it was a more mild sedative that doctors prefere over the rest of the benzo's to keep away abuse.

But im hearing in articles its classified under high-potency benzodiazepines.

Is it equivilant to Ativan?

and whats its duration.

Thanks@!@!

It's not a potent benzo. It has a longer half life than other benzos - 30 to 40 hours. Ativan has a half life of 9-24 hours.

Klonopin is the only benzo that can be used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder. I take 4 mg of Klonopin a night as a mood stabilizer. It doesn't knock me out.

In some ways it does limit abuse because the effect lasts longer so patients are popping them like they might xanax.

I know each benzo has its own unique quality in helping branches of anxiety.

But i didnt know Klonpin was mood stabilizing

Xanax is for panic attacks

Valium i think is just general treatment, no charasteristics.

anyways im looking forward to your input.
