pericyazine

Posted by xbunny on January 13, 2005, at 11:01:09

Since reboxetine didnt work out for me (had no effect on me except made having sex uncomfortable). I had decided to give up on finding a novel treatment for my anxiety and paranoia and go with something nearer to something to which has worked before. I am thinking about trying pericyazine since I have had some good results from thioridazine. Does anyone have any comments on it, positive or negative outcomes or even any other ideas since I am out of them. Thanks bunny

Hi Xbunny!

It would be very interesting to hear from someone who has tried pericyazine (Neulactil / Neuleptil). I doubt that many people on babble have tried it though since it is not available in the USA. I thought that the flupenthixol was controlling your anxiety. Did reboxetine cause painful ejaculation?

Best Regards,
Ed.

hi Ed!

> I thought that the flupenthixol was controlling your anxiety.

it helps alot but not quite enough, the obvious idea would be to increase the dose but it make it nigh impossible to sleep when I do.

> Did reboxetine cause painful ejaculation?

yup horrid feeling like I had been kicked in the nuts!

Hi Mr. Xbunny!

Have you tried diazepam for your anxiety?

Were you thinking of taking a low dose of pericyazine at night in combination with the flupenthixol?

Hi Ed.

(I wont call you 'Mr Ed' as I think the americans know that as a talking horse...)

>
> Have you tried diazepam for your anxiety?

Yeah I have a bunch of it here. Doesnt really do anything for me. I think my problem is that my anxiety is driven by my paranoia/obsessiveness/freakyness so unless something touches that it doesnt really help. The reboxetine was a wildcard, I read NA can affect jitteryness and anxiousness so it seemed a good try.

I just going to start out low and work up and see if there were any effects really. I havent really got this figured out. I phoned the Maudsley hospital info line and they told me it was safe to take with my other meds but suggested a start dose of 75mg which, from having read the monograph at neuleptil.com, seems like a whacking dose. I think I will start much smaller!

Oh wait a sec I see what your getting at now (duh Im slow) - use the pericyazine to sleep so I can up the flupenthixol! hadnt thought of that, thats a cunning idea.

Hi!

If you do decide to try pericyazine, I'd start by taking a single 2.5mg tablet at night. DO NOT take 75 mg!!!!!!! It is not a good idea to start pericyazine with a high dose, especially since you're already on flupenthixol! How does your doc feel about pericyazine? Some docs never prescribe more than one antipsychotic at once.

Ed :-)

He doesnt know yet I see him on monday. He was more than happy to prescribe me chlorpromazine with the flupenthixol, zyprexa with it too. I would love to see the consultant psychiatrist but getting to see him is nigh impossible in fact my entire CMHT are completely fubar at the moment.

About the pericyazine dose, I wonder if the BNF has a decimal point missing! it says 75mg but its only available in 2.5 and 10 and the monograph recommends a max dose of 20mg in the morning and 40 at night.

Hi Bunny!!

No, it's not a mistake. Such high starting doses have been used but I really wouldn't recommend it!! I'd definately start with a nice low dose, especially since your on flupenthixol.

What happened when you mixed flup with chlorpro?

What happened when you mixed flup with Zyprexa?

Hi Ed

> What happened when you mixed flup with chlorpro?

nothing bad just unmanageable restlessness and shaking which didnt abate over time.

>
> What happened when you mixed flup with Zyprexa?

nothing bad there either I was on it over a year. The zyprexa really screwed with my obsessiveness. I wasnt psychotic but I was well on the way to turning OCD and my behaviour was getting too bizarre (compulsions to stand on things, constantly arranging objects etc). It was kind of a slow build up (about 4 months) but once the zyprexa was stopped it quickly reduced.

Hi!

How much chlorpromazine did you add? What dose of flupen were you on at that time? Has flupen ever made you restless? Start with a low dose of peri if you decide to try it, you don't want to get restless again or have other nasty side effects!

I've had this side effect from some AD's. I've never understood why it happens. Does anybody know? Maybe a result of anticholinergic effects?

Hi Ed,

It was either desipramine or Prozac, or both. I can't remember, it was a long time ago. It wasn't like mr. bunny described. It was more of a burning sensation. Not terribly painful, just strange. It's a listed side effect for some ADs, BTW.

Hi,

Painful E seems to especially common with the NARI reboxetine. Desipramine, although a TCA, is effectively an NARI too. I take lofepramine (a prodrug of desipramine) but haven't experienced a painful E!

Ed.
