AP- How much, how long?

Posted by JACJ on January 25, 2005, at 20:48:53

Hi Everyone,
Been busy and miss coming here to read posts. I just started a PT job after 2 years of not working and am doing well. I can't beleive that I would ever work again considering what I was like.

Anyways, I wanted to know if you are on an antipsychotic and for how long and how much you were taking and how you feel on them? I am very interested in AP's and love to hear about them. I don't mean to seem overly nosey but just interested. Hope everyone is staying well.

Hiya,

RISPERIDONE - I went up to 2mg, I was on it for about a week. The side effects were horrendous for me. Aching, sore muscles, restless legs, I was practically climbing the walls! Massive fatigue, constipation, overall horribleness.

ZYPREXA - I was on this for about 2 months. I went up to 20mg. It was very good for delusions etc, but eventually made me feel very low. And it still hadn't solved all the delusional problems. Put on a lot of weight also (but I was glad about this as I'm a skinny minx).

SEROQUEL - I'm just coming off this. I went up to 750mg. On for about 2 months or so. It made me feel really good, probably the best out of all of them. But doctor thinks we can get a better result with something else. Also, tiredness was a joke. I slept every day from about 9pm - 1pm the next day. Had no energy whatsoever. Put on a little weight.

Next I'm trying ABILIFY, I'll let you know how it goes!

I was on Risperdal once for ~2-3 weeks. At first it was great--killed anxiety (both gerneralized fearfulness and obsessive thinking) and lessened depression in combo with 10 mg Lexapro(I have Major Dep and GAD). But then I got dead tired and faint, and foggy-headed.

I have taken Geodon on doses netween 20-60 mg. It also stopped anxiety, but I was foggy-headed. Also the antianxiety effect wore off.

I am on day 2 of Abilify, 5mg, in combo with 200mg Lamictal and 100 mg desipramine. So far so good.

I gave two days to Seroquel and was dead tired.

I take antipsychotics specifically to lessen anxiety, they seem to be the best for me in that arena! I hope Abilify works and does not poop out.

The positive effects seem to kick in starting day 4. I have not yet taken APs longer than 2 months at a time so far.

Good luck.

Ive been taking zyprexa on and off for years. Right now Ive been on it for about the past 6 months maybe, now at 15mg. It makes me feel more logical and in touch with the world, as well as helping a bit with anxiety, and a bit more with depression. Ive tried seroquel, but only got up to 200mg when I decided to go back to zyprexa, so all I can really say about that is that it was good for sleep (as is zyprexa). Also, zyprexa does tend to make me hungry, but less so everytime I go back on it. Lately Ive been either on provigil or adderall in addition, so this hasnt been a problem.

I was on zyprexa for about 6-7 months. It took a good couple of months or so before there was any significant improvement. I'm Schizoaffective. I had to stop the Zyprexa and just started Seroquel 3 days ago.
