Would it be legal to ask for a referral to a US doctor who uses a US pharmacist?

Yes, I think so. Can I afford it? No. I have no money. I live from pay to pay and barely make it. If I could borrow the money then maybe ...
It was a good suggestion though.
Thank you.

When I took Ritalin it was a nightmare. I would crash from it and become suicidal and irritable etc.
Will dexedrine do this as well? Or rather, what are the chances that I will react the same way to the dexedrine?

You'd probably need to take dextroamphetamine very frequently to avoid crashing in between doses, say every 4 hours. What dose of Adderall XR are you on?

There are dextroamphetamine spanules which are time released. The half-life is just short of Adderall XR.

Hi Brian,
>There are dextroamphetamine spansules which are time released.
Are they on the market in Canada? We don't have them here.

Hi Ed,
I was on 30 mg. I know this is suppose to be the maximum but I would crash around 7 pm ... only the fall was more gentle than when I was on Ritalin.

We have the "spansules" in 15 mg and 10 mg and dexedrine tablet in 5 mg. When I took the slow release version of Ritalin I didn't feel a thing except anger at the end of day.
I think I would prefer to take to the tablets.

Maybe I read the news reports incorrectly, but I thought the ban applies to the extended release version only (Adderall XR). If the short acting tablets are available, can't your doctor prescribe those to you in a dosage that is equivalent to what you were taking with the XR?

You read it correctly. However, only the XR version was ever available in Canada.

It's not only the UK where it's difficult. It's not so easy in the US. I have social phobia and absolutely no history of drug abuse or misuse, but I've never been able to get prescriptions for either benzos or stimulants to help out.. Because I've had to change insurance plans five times in the last seven years, I've been to at least five different psychiatrists - in fact six, because one of them moved away - and none of them has been willing to even consider such prescriptions. They're afraid to take a chance on drugs with some abuse potential (even if that potential is actually very small in terms of psychiatric patients with no addiction history) but not afraid to risk my committing suicide over the isolation I often feel. Talk about crazy. From my impression, probably 90-95% of US psychiatrists are the same. General practitioners are more flexible, it seems, though mine isn't.

I don't know much about Adderall or the other ADD medications, so can you tell me why this had been banned in Canada? What is the difference is Adderal and Dexedrine? Does one work better than the other for concentration, or does one become addicted to Adderall and not Dexedrine? I am trying to figure this out from reading the posts and am having a hard time. My daughter was just put on Adderall for Bipolar and depression, because she is having a hard time concentrating at school and her grades are falling. She is taking 20mg each morning. She is only on her 4th day, and says she really can't tell any difference yet. Thanks. -L

Thank God, that I found my new pdoc! She doesn't have a problem with these drugs. Actually, all the pdocs I've had used them until the one before now who put me in withdrawal. Fondly, Phillipa

Standard ritalin also gave me the same blah feeling as it wore off. With Concerta (extended release) I don't have that experience.

The concern is that maybe tere is a connectiopn between Adderall and the death of ten pstients from stroke. Amphetamines can produce high blood pressure ina minority of patients ( alas I am one of that minority) so important that your pediatrician monitors your daughters BP.)
In fact the evidence is very scanty.
Adderall, dexedrine and ritalin are the three common stimulants used for adhd. Everyone seem sto react differently to each. ADHD children who are prescibed any of these stimulants seem to have a lower rate of drug use than others

Really? I guess I'm lucky. I basically walked into my shrink for a first time appt, and told them i have adhd. when i was prescribed adderall 1st time, they wrote me for 120 10mg pills! (enough for 40 a day) this is for someone who had never even seen an amphetamine. good thing I have no interest in abusing this stuff. now I just asked for and switched to dexedrine(40/day) the doc was even keen on it helping with social anxiety: "whatever it takes"
it does wonders for me in all departments, including social anxiety (even adderall helped with SP)

I guess I'm dumb. But, I still don't get it. How does a stimulant help with anxiety? Fondly, Phillipa PS I would understand if you had ADD or ADHD.

Well, I DO have ADHD. Even ritalin is profoundly calming... it helped with anxiety as well. Just dont like the crash. And my doc doesnt really understand dosage equiv./duration so I wasn't prescribed enough of it. so back to adderall(now dex.) ritalin makes me a zombie kinda, too. oh, and the headache!
They give me the motivation to actually talk to people, make friends. somthing I never really did before, I can get along with very few people.
