Hi Everyone, Just read the Thread above this one, and I think he's right. Are we only "feeding" the drug companies? What did people do l00yrs ago for anxiety and depression. Did they kill themselves? Live with it? Not have the pressures we have today? Use up their adrenaline fighting to stay alive? Are we "products" of the "feel good" media? Just looking for your thoughts. I've actually been wondering about this for some time. Fondly, Phillipa

Until I started taking meds, I could barely get out of bed.

Given the choice, I would really like it if I didn't need to take the med I take. There was a reason I went on med and I've been fortunate it works for me. I think there can be a case made for overmedicating folks, but this can be found in any number of ailments.

I guess a lot of my thoughts are generated by the media, and the feelings of defeat that wash over me from time to time. When I compare myself to what a lot of you have been through, I haven't even begun to fight. But, I'm just so tired. Probably this stems from my changing meds every other day this month to my changing pdocs 3 times this month. Add to that 2x in the hospital, I guess I'm just really tired. Sometimes I wish I had the extreme tiredness some of you have. That's because I don't have energy, or motivation to do anything, but yet I can't sit still. Fondly, Phillipa

I think your feelings are quite understandable. You have been through a very tough time.
This may be a little off tract, but I think we can tend to operate in three illusions when it comes to our mental health and functioning. The first is how we preceive the functioning and feelings of others compared to ourselves. The second is the illusion of how we think we "should" feel and function. The third is how these meds we take "should" make us feel. I know when I've let these illusions take over, I find myself always coming up short. So, I do try to be as realistic as possible about others, myself, and my med.
I agree we are packaged and sold a dream that does not exist. But, I do believe these meds are helpful and they positively impact countless folks. I actually know folks in the real world on just about every med that's discussed here and their quality of life is improved by the use of these meds.
From a previous post, it sounds like you are heading toward the correct path for you and you have a good prescribing partner. Give yourself time to adjust and time to heal.
Best to you,
Glydin
