Hi folks,
I'm attending a dinner at a middle Eastern/mediterranean restaurant in a few weeks. Any specific recommendations for what might be safe to order. I have no idea about this type of food. I'm not a big ethnic food eater, so I don't even know what might be on the menu.Help this novice please!

I don't know enough about eastern/mediterranean food to make a recommendation. But, others probably will. I just wonder, though, if it might be wise drop by ahead of time and get a copy of the menu and/or call the restaurant to talk to the chef or owner about food preparation and what ingredients they use. You might be wise to put in a request ahead of time for a special (safe) dish to avoid any risk of a hypertensive crisis. But, I am a bit of a wart at times. My brother is a chef and owns a restaurant, and he accommodates people with food allergies, etc. all the time. Some customers call ahead, advise of the foods they have to avoid, and he prepares a special entree for them. He's happy to do it.
Good luck.

Heya. When i was on Parnate i found that I had no problem with Middle Eastern food (My boyfriend is Arab so i eat a lot of it).
Most of the food they use is very fresh. Im trying to think of what you couldnt eat but im not sure. I guess its best to ask them whats fresh or not. But shish-kebabs, falafel, kefta, tabouli .etc are all fresh and can be eaten. Again, I never had any problem but I agree with what the other person who posted said its best to ask.
Take care.

That's a great idea. Maybe they can even fax me a menu.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm pretty comfy with eating out American food at this point. But branching out to ethnic will be a new step. I'm glad it's not as worrisome as I thought.
I will, of course, still check things out before I eat.
Thanks again,
gg
