cymbalta - fatigue and withdrawal

Posted by Regina on March 3, 2005, at 16:29:36

I've been on cymbalta since september. I take 120 mg a day. Going on it was hell. I threw up and had headaches. Also I was so tired I couldn't do anything. Around Thanksgiving I started to improve energy and depression-wise and at points would have enough energy to be dancing. Of course, it only lasted a couple of weeks.

Now it's March and I'm on 450 MG of Wellbutrin along with the cymbalta. The depression improved a little with the addition of the Wellbutrin but I am still so fatigued that it is hard for me to function.

Here are my questions:

Has anyone had a return of fatigue from cymbalta after it stopped working?

And has anyone had withdrawal symptoms when they stopped taking it gradually? I suffered greatly going off effexor and lexapro, and am a little nervous to stop cymbalta. Also, going on it was so rough that I would like to be sure it's not going to work before I stop taking it.

Thanks

I've not been on Cymbalta but my mother was.

She had great results at first (even lost some weight she gained on Paxil) but it pooped out on her within about 6 months and she had to be switched over to something new.

I have heard that Cymbalta withdrawals are almost as bad as Effexor. I've never been on either so this is all hearsay but from all I've read and seen, it seems to be a toughie to discontinue.

HOWEVER, since you are already on something else (Wellbutrin), you probably could just taper off SLOWLY (SLLLLOOOOWWWWLLLYY) enough that you might not have bad withdrawals.

I think the key is to do it very, very slow.

So slow, you almost trick your brain into thinking it's still getting the same amount.

Good luck and I hope your fatigue improves.

* oh yeah, quick thought- have they checked your thyroid and blood sugar? That can cause serious fatigue if either are messed up.

I weaned off cymbalta very slowly, by emptying the capsules and counting back in the ingrediants. I went from 60mg to nothing in about a month. No side effects. Fondly, Phillipa
