switch to Cymbalta

Posted by jessers11581 on April 11, 2005, at 13:47:59

Okay, I talked to my pdoc on the phone this afternoon and she is switching me directly from 20 mg. Lexapro over to Cymbalta. I will be taking 30 mg. for the first week at bedtime, and then increasing to 60 mg. the second week. I'm pretty excited--I can't wait to see if this will make a difference. Can anyone tell me what I can expect? Things have been SOOOO rough for me lately in terms of apathy, lethargy, overeating, and nervous anxiety. She said that most of her patients have done well with Cymbalta, but I've seen mixed reviews on this board. What are your experiences? Please give me hope! Thanks to all, Jess

Hi - I switched from Effexor, which stopped working, to Cymbalta. The 30mg dose gave me headaches for about a week, and every time I increased the dosage they came back for about a week. I ramped up to 90mg/day, but then my blood pressure went high and I'm back to 30mg, plus propanolol 20mg for the elevated BP. Depression is doing OK but the anxiety has no relief at such a low dose. So now I'm on 1mg of Klonopin, taken half at night and half in the morning. So far so good.

A lot of posters love the med. I didn't do too well on it but it didn't cause any major side effects. Just didn't do anything. Fondly, Phillipa

Worked well for me. I switched from Zoloft. Zoloft was also working good but was causing high weight gain (50-60#s), and some sexual side effects.

Cymbalta is working for me but not as well as Zoloft. On cymbalta I have not gained a pound since switching (which is good - hopefully now I can focus on losing weight).

Good luck

I switched to Cymbalta from Effexor and then back to the Effexor. Cymbalta at 60mg made me lethargic and amotivated, and I started gaining back some of the 30 lbs. (very much needed) I lost on several months of Effexor. My doc just added Wellbutrin and I also take clonazepam.

I hope it works well for you!

I feel like I'm the only one rooting for cymbalta... As I've mentioned in previous posts, it has has a positive effect on me and I've tried so many ADs out there. Cymbalta (at a higher dose) seems to be working for me. I hope it will do the same for you.

I am just beginning on Cymbalta, so I am not a yes or no, yet, 'tho I'm very positive in my attitude about it. I have a history of being very sensitive to meds of all kinds, so began on 10mg/day [had to divide from capsules into plain capsules] and now am up to 20mg/day without any ill effects. I think that sometimes the pdocs are so eager to help us that they increase some of us too swiftly. If you have any question at any time of increase, don't hesitate to talk to your doc, please.
Hope we feel better than we ever have in our life on it! U'n'D
