Longterm (long-half life) benzo use - tolerance?

Posted by sdb on May 20, 2005, at 4:44:09

Hi everybody!

How would you rate tolerance of long-half life benzodiazepines? I am not experienced in that field so I would like to ask you as valuable, experienced users.

Could you please rate that in a way?
Perhaps also in percent (e.g. 100% tolerance)?

You know, I have read books and I asked docs myself (contradictions everywhere) but it seems that I can only trust the honest, experienced users.

Kind regards

sdb

Hi there. I hope I am understanding your question correctly. But the benzo with the longest half is valium ... over 200 hours. That is why when people are trying to come off another benzo valium is often used to replace it because it doesn't wear off quickly.

I am sure Phillipa can tell you more about this med as she uses it and swears by it.

Yes I'm a longtime user of valium. But in between I've been on xanax, ativan, and klonopin. I think my chemistry has changed because I used to feel so very relaxed with 5mg of valium when stress was intolerable. Now I don't feel a thing. I am sleeping for longer stretches of time, but when I wake up I'm awake. I mean awake. I need something else to return to sleep. Maybe it's because I've gone through menopause and I'm not as anxious. Also maybe I don't require the same amt of sleep I once did. Maxime, I often think of you when I wake-up early. I say to myself "how does Maxime get by on 4 hours of sleep?" But you know, I'm not any more tired during the day on less sleep. Fondly, Phillipa
