Could lithium worsen attention problems?

Posted by yesac on May 25, 2005, at 19:05:41

I'm not sure what's happening but I feel like my attention problems are getting totally out of control lately.... I really can't stand this. I feel like something is really wrong. I have to write a paper, so this is not good.

Could it possibly be lithium?

I was only taking 300mg for a month, then the other day I went up to 600mg (immediate release). It makes me really really shaky so I just can't tolerate a lot. Other than that I don't *seem* to have any other obvious side effects, but I do feel awfully tired-- which could be from other drugs--- and there's this attention thing, which is not by any means a NEW problem, but it seems like it's worse lately.

I don't feel nearly as cognitively impaired as I did on Depakote.

Have you had your levels tested? Are you near the therapeutic range? Hopefully your body will get usd to the 600 mg and some of your concentration problems will go away. You could also ask you doctor if you could take Ritalin on an as needed basis like when you need to write a paper.

Oh, and drink and much water as possible since you get dehydrate on lithium which would affect your concentration for sure.
