Taken Ambien for a long time?

Posted by crazy teresa on July 24, 2005, at 13:48:34

I had taken Ambien (sleeplessness from Effexor) for a really long time (maybe 2 1/2 yrs). Now that I don't take it, I have a terrible time waking up.

I have to force myself to open my eyes and sit up or get out of bed. Even then, my eyes want to roll back into my head. If I allow this to happen, I will go back to sleep immediately, but I can still hear things and I can still think. I can feel my breathing get slower, air going deeper into my lungs, I feel every muscle instantly relax. Completely bizzaro! This seems to be doubly intensified if I have slept on my stomach and my sinuses fill up.

Plus, if I ever try to take a short little nap, forget it! I'll sleep for 4 hours or more.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Wow! How much did you take, did you have to increase the dosage? What's the doc say?

My script was for 5mg. pills. I could take 1 or 2. I usally took 1. I was down to 1/2 a pill for the last 4 or 5 mos. Never needed to increase for it to be effective.

We discussed my no longer taking it, but I forgot to bring up the weirdness.

Hey Eddy! ; )

You know, for awhile I've wanted to change my sign on name, and the past couple of days I couldn't sign on, so I re-registered, and gave myself a new name, fairywings.

So....
for now,

Well I wondered who this new person was who popped out of the Blue. Did you announce the name change on any other Boards? Fondly, Phillipa

LOL, sorry Phillipa! I announced it on Admin, and have been trying to remember to put it in my posts.

Oooo, scary! I take 5 mg. too! Have been taking it for a couple of mos. now. I can't sleep w/o it, but I didn't get to sleep or sleep well b4 it either. Maybe I should alt. with benedryl or Valerian. I love the way it just helps me get to sleep though. I've never had that happen b4 the Ambien.

I have taken it for less than a year but when I go without I sleep forever! My sleep is unrefreshing without the ambien and my fibro symptoms flare. I have been wondering about this strange (but welcome!) effect.
