Unfortunately, your description hit the bullseye.

It would be nice if the initial mood elevation could be maintained, but I am not sure how to go about it. I tried adding memantine to Lamictal, and it did not really help. I really feel that there is something dopaminergic about Lamictal that poops-out rather quickly, despite dosage increases.

Good Morning. Lamictal is better for the depressive side of bipolar, and has very little, if any, effect on the manic side.
