I have been taking Effexor 75mg for about five months. Actually I started taking it for anxiety but what I have been reading leads me to believe it is more for depression. I have been experiencing major hot flashes! I can be sitting in a room at 70'and have sweat pouring down my face and feel like I am going to melt. Anyone else having this?

Hi, I was on Effexor for a year and a half and the sweats were with me the whole time :-(
I was really surprised to read that it's also prescribed for women suffering hot flashes (I thought, to make them worse??). I know of several women who take it for that reason and have great relief!!I considered it a great trade off for my depression and anxiety. Eventually the med cause my blood pressure to creep up too high and I switched to Cymbalta, a similar medication. No sweats on this although the benefits don't feel as pronounced.
Keep cool,

Oh boy, last summer I was prescribed effexor and "hot flashes" You know it. Cold sweats and just plain terror. I have heart disease. I'm never going to forget those bouts of sudden cold sweats. Thought I was having a heart attack.
I stopped. period. My Pdoc told me of a patient of his who brought three changes of clothes to work. A better man than I. The effexor seemed to help depression, but "cold sweats" scared me. I'd suggest shopping around. I'm beginning to learn that pdocs can be a pain.
Mine just prescribed well-butrin. Gave me some 300 mg. xrs but was worried that I might get a bit "hyper" Sweet Jesus Christ I'm in the pits of depression and he doesn't want me to get hyper. "hyper" to me feels like normal.
So I'm going pdoc shopping. I pay for treatment not misery. Good luck. Cockeyed.
