After two weeks I must say that I am very happy with Focalin XR. I have had a better quality of focus than with Concerta, especially in the morning, and there hasn't been so much of the "thinking in a rut/zombie brain" sensation that I sometimes get with Concerta. The F ocalin XR does not lats as long as Concerta and it is cleraly front-weighted more than the Concerta and less smooth. I am going to try and replace the dexedrine with Focalin XR and see how that works.
I hope that will give me the same sharp thinking quality I get from teh dexedrine but without the hypertension effects, which means I can then stop the beta blockers ...
Side question - has anyone tried acetyl-L-Carnitine ? Any informed or even just vocal opinions?

I'm glad you posted. I was wondering as I have a scrip for Concerta 18mg that I may call my doc and have him switch to Focalin XR (10mg)? for a trial. If using 18mg Concerta, would 10mg be the right starting dose for Focalin XR?
When you say less smooth, do you mean throughout the day or just wearing off? How much sooner would you say it wears off than Concerta?

How much sooner would you say it wears off than Concerta? After taking Ritalin 10mg IR for 1.5 years the effects have changed, first it stimulated me then calmed me, now at 70-80mgs daily i can get nervous anxiety which begs for benzos, or Alcohol to aleiviet
What gives? maybe Dex would be smoother 5mgs IR? less Caffeinated type feeling?
Cheers

>10mg would seem stronger. I believe 36mg Concerta is appeox equal to 30mg Metadate CD (same older XR technology as Focalin XR or dexedrine XR) and approx equal to 15mg Focalin XR. This would suggest that 18mg Concerta ~ 7.5mg Focalin.

If you look at the two graphs below, the periods indicate effectiveness of Focalin XR whilst the @ sign represents the effectiveness of Concerta. You should copy this into a texteditor using a monospaced font like Courier to see the graphs. I will need to supplement afer five hours.
