Amisulpride

Posted by jclint on October 11, 2005, at 14:57:09

Hi everyone.

I've just started a trial of amisulpride for s anxiety and depression. I am on 50mg a day... so far no side effects, but no theraputic effects either :(

I was wondering how long one would expect to see some action; I've been taking for 4 days and nothing yet. Its a little disheartening as I thought this would be a interesting med. Has anyone got any experience in this area?

Thanks very much,
J :)

Hi J,

The therapeutic effects of amisulpride usually appear quite quickly. I'd give it a few weeks.

If you search the p-babble archives you'll find quite a lot of info RE amisulpride from a few years back. Andrewb was a great fan of amisulpride.

Kind regards

~Ed

Some people have had a better response with a lower dose such as 25mg. You could try that.

I loved amisulpride, all except for the sexual side effects that showed up on about day 4. But I stayed with it for a few months. They were very good months...good motivation, good interest, good social comfort. I did have sexual side effects and my sleep was not very good, but I felt very well.

I noticed its effects on the first day in terms of being into whatever I was doing, better focused. But the best benefits really didn't become evident until about a month.

Your dose seems fine. If no effects after 2 weeks, you could try either 25mg or 100mg, because a move in either direction can make a difference. Weird how it works that way with amisulpride.

Amisulpride really seems to work especially well when there is another med in the mix, like low dose prozac, or low dose adrafinil. The best combination I ever had in my life was amisulpride plus adrafinil, minimum doses of each.

What were the specific sexual side effects, and how bad were they? And why did you stop taking it?
