Hello, I know that Xanax XR pills should not be splitted but I want to take a lower dose. How would you split it?. I tried one with a knife but it is not easy to split in two, it tends to brake.
Thanks

I'd be careful attempting to split an XR pill - because instead of getting a lower dosage, you're most likely to get a MUCh higher dosage. Why? Because Xanax XR is a time release pill, meaning it first releases a set amount of the medication and then over time releases more and more. If you were to split it you most likely will get the concentrated dose of the pill which would result in doubling - even tripling the amount. I would sincerely urge you to talk to a pharmacist and even your doctor if you think the current dose is to high.

>Xanax XR is Xanax mixed together with a waxy like substance that tends to let it disolve slower overall, meaning it's not just "coated" or "layered." Now if you chew one, that's a different story, but I have not noticed an increased effect by cutting them. Of course the only reason to split them in my opinion is if you are weaning off.

>You may be right. If you watch the short video on how it disolves over time at xanaxxr.com - it shows a gel like coating that disolves slowly over time. So you might get a lower dose by splitting it. Check out the video:
