Abilify for anxiety? Anybody? Buehler?

Posted by finelinebob on January 30, 2006, at 21:31:57

Ok, long story short. SSRIs make me ill, had a grand lil' manic episode on zoloft once tho. Wellbutrin makes me psychotic. TCAs (nortriptyine) help(s). Clonazepam helps. Then, after a huge, huge crash due to PTSD my pdoc prescribed Zyprexa and my depression AND anxiety pretty much vanished. Too bad my triglycerides shot up to 900. So, switch to Lamictal and now while my mood is well managed, my anxiety ain't.

The story right now: new city, new pdoc (anyone know Gallo in NYC?). He says classic Bipolar Spectrum -- stay with the nortrip, 2mg/d of clonazepam, sticking with the lamictal for now but he insists on getting me on an atypical antipsychotic. Given my response to Zyprexa, he's putting me on Abilify -- which is supposed to be the least likely in the class to mess with your bloodsugar.

So that's my cocktail: 100mg Nortrip, 2mg Clonazepam, 150mg Lamictal, and eventually 10mg of Abilify. What are people's repsonses, opinions, etc about Abilify? Anyone else on anything like what I am?

Don't they say to start abilfy at 2.5mg and work up? Stimulating. Fondly, Phillipa

Yeah, I'm starting at 2.5 and after afew days going up to 5. Quite frankly, my pdoc says if that feels fine then stay there. I'm just hoping it doesn't screw with my triglycerides the way Zyprexa did. grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I was on abilify for a few days but had to come off of it because of akathisia. I was being given it for anxiety and it worked really well for that.

It also gave me blurry vision though.

Poor clonzy, I wish docs would just give that for anxiety, the half-life is so long, and if you build tolerance then just get higher dosages. Benzos are so useful,

I just restarted Abilify at 1.25mg and amazingly can feel positive effects. I will probably go to 2.5mg but was amazed at how just 1.25mg can work for my "fear" anxiety and depression.

When do you take your Abilify, morning or bedtime?

Funny thing, can't remember my pdoc mentioning it one way or another -- morning or night. For now, I'm taking it in the AM, splitting my klonopin to 1mg in the morning and 1 in the evening. Tolerating it all pretty well, and having some good response so far to 5mg of Abilify.

Problem always is trying to figure out when good is good enough or not. Pdoc wants me to go up to 10mg to check it out eventually.
