It seems I'm at wit's--and pharma's--end here. After many years of tx, my only option appears to be ECT, which I absolutely do not want.Knowing that my options are becoming limited after being on, literally, every SSRI out there, along with NDRIs, a couple tricyclics, MAOIs, etc., and lithium and a number of meds I can't even remember, I've tried to go it without meds several times over the last couple years, all to no avail.
Now, though my GP has given me Xanax to tide me over, my psychiatrist has decided he cannot re-open my case. I understand, given that he previously told me he didn't think there was a pharmaceutical solution for me, but this has left me hanging at a tough time because I can't get an appointment with the couple docs in my area with real expertise in BP and OCD for at least 6 to 8 weeks. And my GP will not put me on lithium or Lamictal, etc., because it's beyond his comfort zone (which I respect).
I can't go through another 2 months without meds. The Xanax gives some relief on the anxiety end, but that's about it.
Does anyone have any suggestions re: a non-lithium/lamictal regime that I might suggest to my GP until I can get set up with a new pdoc? Possibly something that doesn't require regular blood testing?
I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

Do you have insurance that will let you go into the hospital for a while to regulate meds. Fondly, Phillipa

I am so sorry to hear that you are not doing well. You say your doctor won't prescribe you lamictal or lithium. Have you tried Lamictal before? It helps with my ocd and depression. Hang in there,

While my GP has been great about trying out a number of meds, including MAOIs, when by choice I didn't want to be on lithium, he would prefer that lithium or lamictal treatment be managed by a psychiatrist.
I have no problem with that, but it takes forever to get in to see a new pdoc around here. Fortunately, I'm nowhere near the point of going to a hospital, but that leaves me just hanging on for the next couple months. Which sucks because I went back for more aggressive tx of the BP because I had gotten to the point where I felt I had done as much as I could to control it, without success.
That's why I was inquiring as to whether anyone was aware of non-lithium, non-lamictal type meds that have some impact on BP and which my GP might be comfortable prescribing while I wait for a pdoc.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have no idea if this will help you or not but its worth a try. I am bipolar and was diagnosed with OCD ten years before the bipolar diagnosis.
I take:
Neurontin 1200 mg (for moood stabilization)
Wellbutrin 300 mg (antidepressant)
Abilify 30 mg (anti-psychotic)
Seroquel 800 mg (Anti-psychotic)
I have almost a full remission now with these drugs.Good Luck
Tammy
