I'm bipolar II with depression as my main symptom. My pdoc has prescibed Lamictal which caused hypomania and now Trileptal, which after two days of working is now switching to hypomania also. Is this the case for some people and what should I do? A regular antdepressant really causes hypomania.
Sincerely
Reed

The same thing happens to me (also bpII)...bad increase in hypomania with lamictal. What 'regular' ad's have you tried? You might try adding something to dip the hypomania some...small dose zyprexa or a benzo. I currently take nardil, its not as activating for me as other ad's. You could also toy with the dose of your trileptal or lamictal...i find taking lamictal every other day more tolerable.

Hey,
I'm also BP II and spend most of my time in depression.. lamictal sent me hypomanic as well... thats weird that trileptal would because i dontt think it has significant antidepressant qualities... i would recommend an atypical antipsychotic and some lithium.... I'm currently on seroquel 600 and lithium 900 mgs and its the best ive ever felt since the illness began... the atypicals control mania very well while the lithium is good for depression and controllin mania as well...good luck

I've tried prozac and wellbutrin. I like the wellbutrin, but it tends to make me irritable and agitated. I also use .50 xanax at night for sleep or during periods of stress. Some people hae infered that xanax can cause bp2..not sure about that. Thanks for the advice.

I thought both lamictal and trileptal were considered mood stabalizers and used in bipolar disorders. Fondly, Phillipa
