I was wondering if anyone has been taking the combination of the drugs Effexor XR and Prozac? My psycologist wants to change me from Effexor to Welbutrin next week. I was on 300 mg per day of Effexor, but still had too much anxiety over divorece. She then took me from 300 effexor to 150 and added Prozac. Then increased the prozac up to 40mg ,which is my current dose. She also had me on Atarax .25 up to 4x's a day and Trazadone 100 mg to sleep at night. I also have hypothyroidism and have complications in getting my levels stable. I am now on 75mg of effexor (changed cold turkey from 150) because I am now experiencing liver enzyme elevations.I still take 40mg of Prozac and No Trazadone, but Sonata to sleep. I did NOT want to take Sonata. I would REALLY love to feel normal again, any suggestions? Is Welbutrin better?

I am on both effexor xr and prozac, but only because I'm switching, and it was too much to go off effexor cold turkey. actually, on the main page of this site, there is a FAQ on effexor, and theres some sort of increase in a metabolite of effexor, but I don't know what that means. I was on 75mg of effexor, and now I'm on 20mg of prozac, I'll be getting off of the effexor soon. I'm not much help, but check out that FAQ. I would link it but I'm on a PDA right now.

Thank You Bonnie, I will check this out. I am also wanting to hear from anyone who may be on Prozac and Welbutrin combo since my PD is about to try that instead of Effexor. I have had bad depression since changing my dose of Effexor even though I am still on Prozac 40 mg. w/ the new dose of Effexor being 75mg now. I am very frustrated.
