(I am sorry for my poor english)
I take xanax 2mg two times a day, paxil 50mg in the morning (since 8 weeks), and trazodone 50mg for sleep.
I have been on paxil and xanax since 1998 to June of 2006, and It went well, but in the last years I felt that the paxil wasn’t doing the antidepressant effects that It did in the first years, so I decided to change to nardil, I took nardil 6 weeks but it didn’t kick in, and provoked insomnia, so I went to the med, and back to put me again in paxil and xanax, with trazodone 50mg for sleep, but I have been 8 weeks taking it and I still feel depressed.
Do you think that trazodone can have interfered with paxil doing it ineffective? So I don’t sleep as well as the years before without trazodone. Maybe the fact that I am not capable of sleep only with paxil and xanax like before makes paxil ineffective because when I was sleeping well my brain was producing more serotonin during the sleep time?
What is the limit time of a ssri to kick in? Wait more or change for Effexor in example? Please help me I have passed this last two months with suicide thinks and very depressed. Thank you.

Sometimes the second time you take a med it doesn't work so you may have to find another antidepressant and eight weeks is long enough. Do you have a pdoc? If not call your local hospital or crisis line and get a referral tell them what you've written here. Love Phillipa ps welcome to babble and please update us on how you're doing we care

For some reason, SSRIs like Paxil often become ineffective after a period of time. That's the bad news. The good news is that many people find that, after one SSRI stops working, another will work. That means that if you try, say, Celexa, it may work better for you. Or Zoloft or Prozac, but those may cause some anxiety.
The even better news for you is that, after a period of time, the SSRI which used to work may work again for you. You have to be off it longer, though, so you'll need to find something else for a while.
Effexor is a good drug, as is the newer Cymbalta. Remeron is said to be helpful for anxiety, too. Sometimes adding Lamictal can boost the antidepressant effects of other drugs, so that's another option.
Eight weeks is long enough to make it seem Paxil isn't going to work for you right now. Can you call your doctor and see if you can try something else?
I hope that helps.

I will go to my psychiatrist the next Friday and I will tell him your advises. I will request him Effexor XR because it is better than the old Effexor and the ssris.

And affects the serotonin and norepinephrine, not only the serotonin like the ssris.

Greetings and thank you again Phillipa and Racer.
