... and if they were, Anorgasmia would be throwing a wet blanket on our Effexor whenever a sexy situation arose. At least that's been my experience after five days on Effexor -- feeling much less anxious but feeling much less below the waist.I don't consider an orgasm just an indulgence but something essential for prostate health (see results of a recent study at http://menshealth.about.com/cs/prostatehealth/a/ejaculate_ptate.htm), not a neglible thing in a family with a history of prostate cancer. ** Can this side-effect fade as a couple of others I experienced in the first days (chills, ringing in ears) have? **
Tomorrow night I'm going to try taking a higher dose of Bethanechol before sex, as I've read about here. I'm taking 10 mg three times a day for urinary retention, something I'm very prone to with anti-depressants.
I'll be bummed if Effexor doesn't work out. I take 150mg Lamictal to keep me at a steady state (not ruminating) but have been needing something to treat anxiety and boost energy. I don't know what else to try.

In reply to Anorgasmia Effexor XR: Not a sexy sci-fi duo ..., posted by ExcellentCamper on October 10, 2006, at 4:31:39
Anorgasmia from serotonin reuptake inhibitors often doesn't go away. Some people find relief with cyproheptidine prn, taken about an hour before sex, kinda the way Viagra is taken.
It worked great for me, and since cyproheptidine is dirt cheap, safe as houses, and no lasting effects, seems worth a try.
I've also heard of doctors prescribing Viagra, Wellbutrin, and "drug holidays" -- 'though the latter wouldn't seem advisable with Effexor, because of the withdrawal problems...
Good luck!

Thanks, Racer. I will look into cyproheptidine. 40mg of Bethanechol did not do the trick as was suggested elsewhere on the board.

Sorry for the negative report... But I have to add that I can't recall what, if any, remedies I may have tried (not certain, but I don't think that I tried any)... Hope that you have better luck!
