Eff-XR or Cymbalta w/ Val - Pharmacologically Pls?

Posted by corafree on October 30, 2006, at 20:58:42

My PCP suggested Cymbalta is more useful for pain than the Eff-XR P prescribed.

This upteenth(exaggeratingby10) time on Eff-XR, I'm experiencing fatigue. tho' did have flu shot late last Thurs. (Haven't done a dish since!)

The E-XR is also being taken w/ Valium, a first.

Used to be on Klonopin or Xanax alongside it, recalling lift of depression and increase in energy; all but one time, one time I got very 'high-strung and psyho(?)', never figured out, d.c.'d, and never happened again when taking it.

I'll do some pharmo research, but understanding is ltd. Would appreciate if someone might take a gander of a look at it in this manner and share w/ me.

I can't imagine the 'flu toxin' still bein' in my bod', but am havin' trouble w/ constipation, so possibility.

and has Effexor won. But I've also been prescribed Lyrica now. Effexor and Cymbalta have an equal effect on norepinephrine, Effexor also works on additionally on serotonin and on dopamine. I find 150mg of Effexor activating; 30 and 60 mg of Cymbalta put me to sleep midday. I also take 1mg clonazepam. That's my benzo of choice with Effexor. I hope I've helped.

Cymbalta
thiophenepropanamine: SNRI
NE reuptake inhibition ++
5-HT reuptake inhibition ++

Effexor XR
cyclohexanol: SNRI
5-HT reuptake inhibition +++
NE reuptake inhibition ++
DA reuptake inhibition +

Well thank you. I 2 am now on Lyrica. Maybe that could interacting w/ Effexor-XR in some way. It is certainly not as activating as I once recall. Or, maybe dose too low. Just don't want to go way up on it.

Hmmm ... I'm just in 'a real funk' and can't seem to find my way out.

Certainly don't need anymore midday fatigue.

See P in few days.

Good luck at your appt. When I first took Effexor it was so stimulating that I had to add the clonazepam to take care of the residual anxiety the activation created. Then I started doxepin with them both to combat insomnia. I no longer need to take the doxepin for sleep. Lyrica with the others helps me relax enough and works on the pain enough to get me through the night soundly. I think you my be right too about not needing as much Valium with the Effexor and Lyrica because of the way Valium and Effexor act together. And then you have the effects of the Lyrica which may be less stimulating for you too.

5 months on cymbalta no migraines. only regular headaches. That's something, though I'm not sure how this relates to other types of pain?

One time I took Effexor-XR and it was sooo way stimulating too! Other times less.

Tks Colleen. Considering the Lyrica too, wonder, too much serotonin reuptake inhibiting properties together?

Not sure what to augment; prob' Valium, tho' need be careful as did have NB when on Effexor-XR and had d.c.'d Klonopin.

Went around like superwoman w/ emotions quashed, then had that breakdown.

Hmmmm ... 'what 2 say to my P?'.
