are these symptoms of depression?

Posted by Jimmyboy on December 14, 2006, at 10:18:46

Hi, just wondering if all of these are just symptoms of depression or if I need to be concerned about other things being wrong>

All of these are severe and have been going on since about may , so about 7 long months ..

Extreme fatigue/ sleepiness , dizziness/ impaired balance , can't concentrate, severe memory loss, blurred vision , swollen eyes,

All of these symptoms have ruined my life , and of course I am sad , I think if anyone had these symptoms they would be depressed. So I was wondering if these are caused by the depression or symptoms are caused by something else which then causes depression.

Thanks,

JB

Have you asked your doctor for its advice?

Fatigue, poor memory and brain fog are common symptoms of depression but the blurred vision, swollen eyes and balance problems need looking at to make sure there is no underlying problem.

could be something as simple as a chronic sinus infection (the dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue).

Who all have you seen about this?

Some sound like depression but others sound like side effects of meds, are you on any? The swiollen eyes don't sound like either, but can be caused by allergies or sinus.

I had all of those symptoms with my most recent bout of depression and most of them were from the meds, specifically Lamictal.

My dizziness is now gone, haven't fallen for a few weeks, my memory is better and all were caused by meds. I think meds can give you more symptoms that mimic depression and that is where it becomes impossibleto knowif it is the depression or the meds. When I'm not on meds and I get depressed the symptoms are totally different, not as much physical stuff, more the negative thoughts, etc.

Interesting thought Madeline,

I have seen a bijillion doctors and had lots of expensive tests done as well as trying about every anti-depressant, mood stabilizers, etc etc. like lots of people on this board.

But now that you mention it, the last time I was at the doctor he told me that my nasal passages were badly inflamed and I have had a sore in my nose for over a year and a half. It keeps going away and coming back all the time. Its really painful , but I never have thought much about it, but a sinus infection could be part of the problem..... although I don;t think its the whole problem.

Any treatments you would reccommend?

thanks a ton,
JB

Okay, you need to get that sore cleared up for good. Any other sores?

If you have post nasal drip, I really think it is time to visit an ENT.

You may need a nice long course of antibiotics or an anti-fungal to help clear your head (and that sore).

In any case, it's worth a shot.

Not sure what to make of it, but I heard from several sources that there is some kind of link between respiratory allergies and depression.
