Tylenol overdose

Posted by tinadee on January 7, 2007, at 19:52:33

How i gotnto this site was i wsa looking for the answer how much is too much.

on thrusday i decided to take extra alprolaza2mg trazadone 250mg
lisnipril 80mg?
lipitor50 mgs
2 glass of eggnog mixture and mudslide
clonidine 10mg
folic acid 4 pills
and tylenol 18 500mg pills
I did call my pschiatrist but told him i onlu took alprolazame and trazadone. But as i became sicker i told him about the rest but not the tylenol. Last night i was up until 5:30 am vomiting and with diarrhea, stomack pain sweating profusly cold and hot. I lost nine pounds and am urinating very little which is a dark clear reddish brown color. I am not currently suicidal and realize this was a huge mistake and have not done anything like this in over 6 years.

i have been looking for figures that could help me decide if i should go to the hospital. i have read that you can take up to 40 extra strength until problems arise. is this true?

I also have read that it can take up to 76 hours for damage to the liver and kidneys to show. Is this so?

If you know these answeres you do not have to post them on the sight but just email me [xxx] i am also saying these are just questions to help me figure out what i should do. in know way is this a recipe for overdose. Obviously i'm still here and i was extreme sick last night and would not wish that on anybody. This would be a horrible way to die and seems like a long process with serious complication if not successful.

I also don't want to tell my husband of my stupidiy. I just want to feel better physically without ending up in a psych ward.

Sounds like you already have damaged yourself.

Early symptoms following a potentially hepatotoxic overdose may include: nausea vomiting, diaphoresis and general malaise. Clinical and laboratory evidence of hepatic toxicity may not be apparent until 48 to 72 hours post-ingestion.

I'd tell my husband, call my pdoc and tell him the rest about the tylenol and get to an ER for lab tests. Love Phillipa ps tylenol is very damaging to the liver

You should call your pdoc and be truthful with him, let your hubbie know and get yourself to Emergency asap. Don't take any chances, please!!!

I agree, just call your doctor and go to the emergency room AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so they can do the most possible to detox you. Once you tell about the tylenol, they likely may want to hospitalize you, but that would be a small price to pay for getting the medical attention you really need right now. I've read up on tylenol before- what you are describing is pretty alarming, so please get help before it has any more time to progress.

And don't forget the emergency room people have SEEN IT ALL, so don't be embarrased there.

OMG twice. Go to the ER immediately, although activated charcoal will not reach you by this point. You have to be heroically saved with N-acetylcysteine and other supportive care.

It is the second most common cause of hepatic failure in the US and I think paracetamol is the first in the UK. Anyway that is irrelevant.

Evaluations will be necessary. Depending on combinations of drugs already in system, a team of doctors will have to decide if it is necessary to receive a partial or full liver transplant if necessary or monitored liver in hospital for an undetermined time.

As a foot note, please, anybody reading this, and I will not post anything about amounts, do not go that direction and especially do not go that direction with APAP/paracetamol.

It is a highly useful drug and only one of two that are most effective for antipyretic, the other being aspirin, in or out of hospital, for severe fevers. Ibuprofen and its derivatives are not very effective at fever reduction in a number of people. But much beyond the 4-6 hour dosing strategy, it is a drug with a low margin of safety, and OTC. It is still reasonable for it to be OTC, I have safely used it for years, especially as a teen with the Reye's syndrome possibility with aspirin, etc. If it were passed through the FDA today it would never be approved. But thankfully there are two, and only two antipyretics available besides other supportive method care (ice baths can cause shock).

Be well. We are here with your thoughts.

Whatever people say, it is still a good idea to get help rather than worrying about whether or not it's too late for this or that. Every body varies. I hope (and trust) you aren't even reading this because you are at the hospital. Yes, I too am sure they've seen it all and won't be shocked a bit. Best wishes.

i am worried about you, so if you are reading this and/or if anyone else has heard from you, i would like to know that you are okay? you had a severe reaction, so it would just be nice to know how it turned out and that you're fine now.

best, ramsea

Thank you all for the concern and great advice. I was uck and had a slight elevation in number and was rehydrated and of course sent upstairs.

It so happened this was a nice place the food was good the sttafff were good and the groups were good . but i wouldn't want to stay there. I just got out this afternoon and am meeting with my pschologist, physchiatrist and my group next week. i need to learn was of reaching out for them because they are there for me. But i feel like i'm imposing or pushing my problems. I think it will be helpful develop a plan that allows me or a statement th\at reassures me that i can call. Ireally hope people like my self can get the courage to speak to someone before its to late.

A sincere thank you to all and i will keep you all in my nightly prayers

God Bless
Tina
