Does anyone know if this med is still used to treat anxiety or depression. I know it was once popular as an antihypertensive and antidepressant.

I haven't heard of it. Its around for high blood pressure, in low doses, with very strong warnings about drug-induced depression/suicidal behavior. Apparently the suicide/depression thing has been overblown, though; I read an article where a shrink dissected some of the studies and pointed out that for some anxious/depressive/schizophrenic types, reserpine could be very helpful. Oh well.
I imagine one could find the rauwolfia (sp?) alkaloids around somewhere, or the herb (serpent wood or something like that) in pure-ish form from a health store or something similar.

Its still available as a medication in the US, often combined with a diuretic for high blood pressure. It has a multitude of side effects and isn't a first line drug.
It has been used in the past as experimental treatment for TD as a dopamine depleter although it can also cause strong pseudoparkinsonism and dyskinesias.

I don't know much about Reserpine except that in some of the clinical research at pubmed when scientists want to induce depression in rats or humans to see if something else can counteract it, they use reserpine to create the depression.
This is the end of the thread.
