I'm on 60mg of Parnate and doing OK, but I do have some anxiety and I feel like some of my depression may be directly and indirectly caused and worsened by this anxiety.
I tried Klonopin years ago but found that it makes my depression much worse, putting me into an awful funk that can last for days after just one dose.
I'd like to give benzos another shot and my pdoc mentioned that Ativan may not depress me like Klonopin did.
Does anyone here have experience combining Parnate & Ativan? If so, how did it go, what was your dose, dosing schedule, etc?
Thank YOU!

Thanks, Phillipa. Couple of Ativan questions for you, if you don't mind:
1) what's your dosage, how often do you take it, etc.
2) side effects?
3) what does it feel like to take it? Does it knock you out and make you drowsy or does it have a mild effect that will still allow me to take it and work effectively during the day????
thanks, Phillipa!

Dan I've been on benzos for many years so the doses I took were large compared to most. But it just mellowed me out , allowed me to relax, no side effects for me, but you need to see what dose you need so it doesn't sedate you by trying it out. Is it the first benzo ever for you? And what dose does your doc say or want to put you on? Love Phillipa

I am very familiar with lorazepam (Ativan) they use it in hospitals, and i was on it for a year, i was on 6mg 2mg X 3 daily for panic attacks.
1) what's your dosage, how often do you take it, etc.
--I was on 3mg for daily for 4 months then increased to 6mg. Daily, PRN mainly, but daily.
2) side effects?
--Ativan has its own mental effects, its mind dulling, but it doesnt make you as "spacey" as Xanax and Klonopin. Ativan actually doesnt really have bad side effects with me. I can type, i can funtion it, effectianly.3) what does it feel like to take it? Does it knock you out and make you drowsy or does it have a mild effect that will still allow me to take it and work effectively during the day????
--Ativan produces an ease, not a euphoric ease, well in most cases like Xanax. Just a general ease similar to Alcohol, but with out the side effects. It actually makes your body relax, not just nerves unlike Klonopin which only targets nerves. Ok, sometimes when your stressed, it actaully makes you more socialable. I used to take Dextroamphetmaine 30mg and Lorazepam 1mg. I would say Ativan is better for anxiety during day. Xanax wears off too quick, you are eased, more open.
I dont know anything on parnate expept that its MAO-B inhibitor, and causes later agitation during the day which i have heard of.
I rerember Ativan, it was not, i could effectivly function on it. But it didnt stop these panic attacks.
Are you considering asking your doctor about Ativan? or wait are you already on it.
Thanks.
Matt

Thanks, Matt. I am considering taking it (well, I think I'm definitely going to at least give it a try at this point) and my doctor seems to be on board with it.
