hi
i would like any info anyone has to share about how long it takes for trazodone to make you sleepy?
i took 150 mg over an hour ago and do feel a little sleepy but not enough to actually get to sleep.
i only started taking trazodone a few days ago but have yet to feel any hypnotic effects.
does anyone have any advice as i suffer from chronic insomnia and just want to get some rest.
thanks for reading

I've not taken it but have heard it so tiring and makes you sleepy even the next day. You must be like me as it takes so much for me to sleep of benzos and lunesta. Love Phillipa

I never found Trazodone to work for me at all. I started at 50 and went up to 150 but it never helped me sleep. It never made me sleepy the next day either. I take 50mg of Seroquel at night to sleep now. It is the only thing that has ever worked for me.

Hi BB
It looks like the traz isn't going to help you. I think it would be best to go back to the doctor for something else.

I take 50-100 mgs of trazadone at night for sleep. usually it works within 20-30 minutes and when it does, it is simply a sleep bomb for me.
I have found that taking trazadone with food seems to help it work better on nights that i am just refractory to sleep and that usually does the trick.
I don't wake up tired the next day, in fact, I feel pretty good, but I have never taken 150 mgs.
As always be sure that you maintain good sleep habits - keep your bedroom dark and cool, try to go to bed at the same time every night, lay off the caffeine after the mornings and don't exercise in the evenings. Also, if you don't fall asleep with 20-30 minutes, get up, don't just lie in the bed miserable.
Also we tend to get sleepy when our body temperature drops, so sometimes taking a bath or a shower before bed can expedite that temperature dropping and promote sleep.
If the trazadone doesn't work after all that, I would see my doc and get something else. You've got to sleep.

hello
i tend to agree that trazodone is not going to work on my insomnia but it does seem to be lifting my depression. so i think i will stay on it for that purpose and call my psychiatrist to ask for something else to help me sleep.
i am thinking of requesting ambien cr. i have heard it works better than lunesta and lunesta by itself does nothing for me. maybe ambien cr along with the trazodone will do the trick?
i used to use seroquel and it worked well but the problem is was as soon as it would start working, i would become extremely hungry and get up and pig out every night. it caused weight gain that i cant have as im already overweight.
so does anyone have any experience with ambien cr? or any other suggestions? i would really appreciate some help as im tired of being tired and when i do sleep its like im half awake part of the time.
thanks to everyone

also i forgot to mention that i have tried zyprexa and that did the same thing as seroquel but only made me hungrier at smaller doses. :(
i am reading through old threads and have seen remeron mentioned but keep seeing people complain of weight gain, so i guess i can rule that one out.
i wish my insomnia werent so treatment resistant.
This is the end of the thread.
