Doctor gone for a year - 1 year of refills (wtf ?)

Posted by linkadge on July 13, 2007, at 20:40:51

My doctor has gone on a sabatical for a year or more.

He left me a year of refills of the medications that aren't doing anything.

I really don't understand, does he think these meds are going to keep me normal for an entire year? I'm only sleeping 3 hours a day anyway.

I'm just so confused.

Link I know you're in Canada and the provence thing but someone has to be taking his place for new patients. If you have to get admitted to the hospital for new med drastic but may be necessary. I've never heard of anything like this and I'm truly sorry. Love Phillipa

Call your GP and get referred to another pdoc. I can't believe a doctor would go away for a year and write a year's worth of prescriptions.

Well, isn't that just special? Glad he's getting the rest and recreation he obviously needs...

I don't remember if you have posted before about whether there are alternatives available to you for psychiatric care. If not, though, I found myself in a similar situation here when I first found PsychoBabble. I didn't have insurance, wasn't making enough money to see a private doctor, and ended up being treated by a county psychiatrist. It was terrible -- she was abysmal. In the end, she told me that I was fine -- "I'm satisfied that the drugs are working just fine -- you're just not responding appropriately." (WTF does that mean, anyway?) She cut me loose to the medical side to get my meds refilled -- the meds that left me lying in bed and crying all day most days, too anxious to open the window blinds, etc.

Turned out, that was the very best thing she could have done for me. The medical side changed my meds, and got me stabilized again. Huh, whaddaya know?

The reason I tell you this long story which I know you care about so much, is that it might just be that your GP will be able to offer you some improvements that the pdoc wasn't able to. You've done enough homework that you can probably walk in with some ideas, and maybe the GP will be more amenable to them. I hope so, at any rate.

Good luck.

that is insane!!!!!!! This might be a great time to get a new referal for a new pdoc. I just can't believe he left you with a years supply of meds and vanished. Did he at least give you a number for another pdoc??????
