Hi,
Does anyone know if it's safe (or relatively safe) to
take these two together? I was on Wellbutrin SR (450
each day), but didn't think I was getting a lot of
benefit...my doctor gave me this. Then, I ordered some
Manerix from out of the country (not available in the
US), because I thought it was time to try an MAOI
without worrying about the hypertensive crisis. But if
the Wellbutrin was doing anything, I don't want to lose
that if I don't have to...and of course the insert
that came with the Manerix has cautions about combining
medicines.Anyone have any insight or experience. Thanks a lot in
advance.J

It's contraindicated, but I've read on this board that Wellbutrin and an MAOI have been combined, but only under a doctor's supervision. I have not read about Manerix and Wellbutrin, but I have read about
Wellbutrin and Parnate, and I emailed a doctor that someone on this board refered me to, who apparently was an early advocate of this. He says it can be done, but your pdoc needs to be current and watch you carefully. From what I've read about MAOIs, I wouldn't fool with them without the supervision of someone who knows more about them than I do. JMHO.

I took Parnate and Wellbutrin together. I didn't notice any adverse reaction.
Psychiatrists regularly use stimulants (Wellbutrin is a moderate stimulating drug) like methylphenidate with MAOIs; Dr. Bob's Tips talk about this extensively.

Hi. I used Manerix, which is sold in Canada, for about six months. (up to 900 mgs) When my pdoc first suggested it I was concerned based on what I'd read about Nardil and Parnate. He said Manerix had none of the indications for food reactions etc. of the older MAOI's. While I never combined the drug with an SSRI, I had no problems other than a lack of successful antidepressant action. I'd check it out with your doc before combining the two just to be safe and let him know what you're doing

I've been on Wellbutrin for several years and have also recently been taking Manerix (Moclobemide) - for about six weeks or so. No problems have surfaced although it was me who talked my GP into the Manerix prescription - I would love to hear from anyone if there are any known problems with taking the combination.
I've found the Wellbutrin works very well for depression. Take WB - no more depression. The addition of Manerix has been a real surprise to me. It's my first MAOi. It seems to actually lessen anxiety - it's given me insight into how much Anxiety is a separate and perhaps larger problem than Depression for me. Now I believe in all the disorder initials (MDD, SAD, GAD, ... %^)
I raved about Manerix for a while, although I've found a very welcome energizing effect only goes so far (works less well) and I'm looking for something that's longer lasting / stronger.
I wonder if I can get the Emsam patch here in Canada ... anyone?
This is the end of the thread.
