All I can say is: word. Since treating my thyroid I'm no longer bipolar.

I can believe it. I know a friends mother who's lifelong battle with various mental illness suddenly ended when a doctor tried thyroid.
I have lowish thyroid, but not not low enough to warrent treatment.

how do you know it's too low..that was one of the points of the articles - namely, that people who even have 'normal' thyroid numbers could possibly greatly benefit from thyroid treatment - and this is probably doubly true if the thyroid is low normal.

Link optimal TSH is between l-3 where my endo is trying to get me. I was down to 2.5 then it went up to 9 so throid is being increased slowly as it's a very sensitive hormone. Love Phillipa

So you are bipolar and thinking of adding thyroid hormone? I know sometimes they add cytomel to jumpstart a depression. But that's it Love Phillipa

It's funny, because I was just the opposite. They tested my thyroid to the Nth degree, and found absolutely nothing wrong with it. Many years later, I get on a mood stabilizer, and I'm much better than I've been in years! My dx is BP II rapid cycling. But, really, piecing it together, it makes a lot of sense, and I agree with it. Every test run on my body shows I'm healthy otherwise. But I was a mess.

There is such a thing as Sick Euthyroid Syndrome where TSH levels are in the normal range, but prescribing extra T3 or T4 makes a dramatic difference to a person's overall functioning.

The thyroid is an exquisively sensitive organ controls all your metabolic rates. I'd never do that without the supervision of a doctor. Love Phillipa
