Well I guess this falls into the any story category. My ex father in law also at the time labeled manic depressive he chopped down all the palm tress at their house in Florida dropped money like crazy. Before becoming manic must have been hypomanic controllable as he built an empire of bussinesses and is quite wealthy. But when he went on lithium it literally saved his life as he was up for two weeks and then fell into the deepest depression just sat and starred and each year he would quit his lithium to loss weight and the story would repeat. He would tell nasty stories about family when manic and hid guns in our house by then he was back in Ct. Today he is 85 in a nursing home the best money can buy in Florida but if only he had stayed on his lithium a lot of hurt wouldn't have happened. It worked miracles for him. I'm sure it will do the same for you. love Phillipa

What other meds are there that can help bi polar disorder besides depakote? I have tried just about every med out there...but I was just curious...Lithium seems like a really harsh drug.
