Interesting!!Has Anyone Found This To Be True?

I'm rather curious about the efficacy of this study. Has anyone tried both and found trazadone to be more effective?

Anxiety Helped by Trazodone or Imipramine Slightly More than with Benzodiazepine:

In a 230-patient DB PC 8-week study of generalized anxiety disorder, diazepam (Valium) patients (average dose 26 mg) improved the quickest. However, by the third week, imipramine (average dose 143 mg) and trazodone (255 mg) were catching up.

Among completers, moderate to marked improvement was reported by 73% of patients treated with imipramine, 69% of patients treated with trazodone, 66% of patients treated with diazepam, but only 47% of patients treated with placebo. While the antidepressants caused more side-effects, drop-out rates were equal.

255 mg of trazodone would put in the bed asleep for several days.

I wonder if that might have something to do with its anxiolytic properties?

I do wonder if lower dose trazodone and the benzos might work together to reduce anxiety?

That thought crossed my mind also...lol I can only take 50mg and that knocks me out. I can't imagine 255mg. Plus I was thinking 26mg was high for the valium too. I thought most people take single digits.

I wonder how they came up with 26mg of valium. My pills are 2mg or 5mg or l0mg. Splitting the pills and how many times a day? I at my age would not take a tca due to the heart problems they can produce. I've heard lyrica in 50mg doses is good for anxiety and wanted to try it pdoc said no. Phillipa

maybe 26 was the average dose? Like, one person on 40, another on 10, another on 20? Valium doses can really vary so much--I read this one study where they used several *hundred* milligrams to treat schizophrenia w/o an antipsychotic (apparently, it went well).

I've taken imipramine, though, @ 150mgs/day, and..it wasn't impressive. At all. I wonder if they screened out people with mixed depression and/or OCD? Those people might respond well to an antidepressant.

Here's a little bit of info I posted about lyrica. For me, the dosage of 50-75mg worked on my depression. 5-600mg knocked out the depression and severe anxiety.

Some more facts about Lyrica ?
Most patients now desire to treat their conditions of anxiety disorder with the help of this medicine known to us as Lyrica.

Depression is one and the other physiological causes for which Lyrica is used include various neuropathic pain like peripheral neuropathic pain, diabetic and postherpetic neuropathic pain and adjunctive therapy for epilepsy.

The only adverse effects of Lyrica include somnolence and giddiness, which however can be aptly altered by adjusting the dosages.

A Pfizer production Lyrica depression medication is an alpha-2-delta ligand. Lyrica works by calming hyper-excited neurons.

Lyrica is an innovative anticonvulsant medication accepted and standardized by the European Community and U.S. FDA. The medicine is wonderful in treating anxiety, mood and sleep disorders. It in fact improves the overall quality of life.

Lyrica is a structural derivation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter.
