Are there any new depression meds on the horizon?

Posted by PhoenixGirl on November 13, 2007, at 22:56:21

I've tried everything and am currently on Cymbalta. It's just ok and causes some sexual dysfunction, but not as much as most other ADs.

Pristiq, which is a reformulation of Effexor. Not a breakthrough of any kind.

There is an increasing amount of research and study into the use and development of nmda antagonists (and possibly ampa receptor agonists) for depression). The results from these trials so far are very encouraging.

Its an unfortunate truth that psychiatric medications get the backburner to research in immunization and retroviral agents

Check this link:

I'm most interested in Valdoxan which is based off Melatonin. So it's a new type of med. Unfortunately the EU rejected the first attempt at approval saying they need more proof that it's safe.

Hi,

They seem to be running Ketamine studies right now for depression and also Ketamine like substances.

I think they are also doing trials on Drugs that directly act on BDNF (I think it is called anyway).
