to those who gained weight on REMERON

Posted by g_g_g_unit on November 18, 2007, at 20:08:59

i've read that the sedation usually subsides once the norepinephrine kicks in at higher dose (~30mg), but does that apply to the hunger as well? so did those who gained a lot of weight remain on a lower dose? or is there reason to believe that the hunger will persist regardless of dosage?

Its been my own personal experience in the past and my doctors that this is only an in vitro concept; the greater the dose, the more the weight gain, but then again, your miles may vary and hunger and weight gain could also persist regardless of dosage.

Yzibow,

In my experience dossage didn't have influence on halting weight gain (I went up to 45 mgs).

I did manage to stop gaining by adjuncting daily with ranitidine (Zantac, anti acid).

Cheers,
Maria

thanks for yr replies. Maria how have you found the drug otherwise? did the sedation wear off around 45mg? just worried because my job involves a lot of well .. thinking .. and i can't really afford to be dumbed down.

Hi ggg,

Well actually, I found the sedative properties (and anxiolitic ones) were less on 45 than on 30 mgs.

Remeron was absolutely the BEST for crushing depression. Also for tearing to threads my social phobia. But adding on the pounds eventually spoiled it - eventhough I managed stabilization by adding Zantac.

As for 'dumbing you down' I never noticed that! Quite the opposite as it made me more outspoken than usual.

Goodluck!
Maria

I found that eventually I stopped gaining weight on Remeron at 30mg, after about 8 weeks of nonstop hunger. I agree that it's been the best antidepressant so far. I'm in the process now of losing the weight I put on - slowly, but surely.
