Parnate- evening/early night exhaustion

Posted by nickguy on February 5, 2008, at 16:11:43

I've been on Parnate for about 6 months. It's worked well, probably more so than I realize. There has been a lot of positive change. I also take Klonopin, but not nearly as much as I used to after starting Parnate.
Anyway, I can't remember whether this was better at 30 mg (which I started at) 40, or 60mg. But I'm on 90 now and I've actually been on it for a little while (2-3 months) . I guess it didn't bother me the last semester of my school b/c I felt better and had later classes which I HAD to kind of stay awake for. But now, I'm done school sometimes at 2:00 or 3:00 and I come home and can do a little work for a while but after that I"m EXHAUSTED.
It's the worst in the early night time (8:00-9:30) and I cant get my homework done. If I went to bed at 12:00 every night, I would get a full nights sleep because I dont have to wake up until 8-8:30. But I don't know what to do about it.
I've tried lifting weights, and exercising and that doesn't help much. I take 50 mg in the morning and another 40 in the afternoon b/w 1-2:30 depending on when I wake up. I don't know if lowering the dose would help, or raising it (which my doctor has mentioned). I'm just wondering if anybody has any similar experience to the evening and early night fatigue. I feel pretty good in the morning and afternoons. I'm wondering if I can change the way I dose somehow, or just some suggestions to mention to my doctor, or augmentation or anything. But I can't go on like this b/c my work is just not getting done and I just feel like lying around when I get home from school. Most of the time, I don't nap in the evening (3-6 oclock) but after dinner (8-9:30) I could easily fall asleep and not get up until the morning and then I'm screwed for school.
I'd really appreciate any input.
Thanks.

-Nick

(btw, the same thing happens when I don't take any klonopin at all, so I don't think it's related to using klonopin as needed)

I wish I had some suggestions for you but I wasn't on Parnate that long but I do remember the fatigue..I could nap for a couple of hours a day no problem..due to some weird chilling effect I had to stop Parnate and I was put on Nardil..some people say they have fatigue with it too, but it is energizing for me..I don't nap anymore, but it also comes with insomnia, for me at least.

Maybe you could talk to your doctor about switching to Nardil..as it may be more activating for you..keep posting..there will be someone who's on Parnate that can help you! Wish I had more answers for you..

Thanks for your input- Parnate seems to work for me, so I'm not really looking to switch. I'm just looking for either a different dosing suggestion, whether thats when to take it, or whether increase or decrease of Parnate might help, or any other suggestions as to the increase of energy. (I lift weights, maybe I should try running more..., supplements (safe ones, which I would double check with my doctor before taking anyway) or augmentation strategies people use (which again, I would check with my doctor, as he would be prescribing anyway).

Might have tried this already, but have u attempted to use pure caffiene? As in the tabs at 7-11,vivarin,no doze etc, your common ones contain caffiene 250 mg per tab, usualy with NO INACTIVE INGREDIENTS,so although technicaly contradicted i use it succesfully to avoid the fatique as well as sometimes give the fading parnate a boost.

Ive used with caution actual stimulants,i.e amphetamines at low doses,at it was horrid, the effects conflicted w parnate way too much.

When using the caffiene, its not as if u ordinarly took a caffiene tab, which i wouldent do,sending u through the roof,NO instead with the parnate working you barly notice if at all the caffiene and at best itll help you avoid the sleep issue in the evening.
