Hi guys having trouble weaning off the percocet from my surgery. Should it make depression worse? What's the best thing to do take extra valium like 5mg at night or try extra luvox although it hasn't really been that effective. Thanks Phillipa

Hi Phillipa
My psychiatrist has recommended that I take Valium when I've been weaning off antidepressants in the past (as well as going onto new ones e.g. SSRIs, which make anxiety worse).
I'm vaguely aware that Benzos are good for opioid withdrawal. You may need to take more than the 5mg though.
Best of luck!

Tell your doctor and ask him - I'm sure he's had plenty of patients with the same problem and he can tell you a safe solution. Doctors are there to answer questions just like those, you just have to ask!

Hi PJ
You might need to take a little extra Valium to help settle you down at night.
You could feel a bit cold and unpleasant for a few days.

That's a common complaint when lowering opiate doseages.
That and feeling uncomfortable and more vulnerable to pain.
Just the opposite of the effect.

If you'd been on Perc for a month+ at maybe 10/650 3x a day, I think clonidine patches and hospitalization are in order, well, though, that was when hospitals had preventative care.
My understanding has been that benzos are used for a person w/ a hard time coming off an opiate after surgery or such.
But, it would seem that you should be allowed a bit more of the prefered benzo to get over the Perc and not have to draw from your usual regimen.
Don't see how that would work.
Your body is accustomed to a certain amount of this benzo, so it's like robbing Pete to pay Paul, and Pete might feel bad.
Hope pdoc is allowing you a couple weeks of an increased amount of the preferred benzo.

Sigi I'm so depressed and weaning down slowly. My coping skill of excercise is gone and eyes blurry, sores on tongue, and took too much valium last night and crying all the time. The dose and useage is only a month? PJ

Sounds real good to me if you are ready for it. Is it doc's regimen or have you been able to get in touch w/ him yet?
I still tend to think you'll need just a bit extra benzo until you've gotten to where you feel comfortable enough to not want the Perc at all. Any1 correct me if you think I'm wrong.
I become very nervous nearing the time my Perc dosage is scheduled. I'd like to detox down, again, but most inpatient centers are not open to anything but sui*idal cases right now, well of course unless you have cash, or a darn good pdoc.

Wish you had something to help you sleep through the night, but then if you have pain, that's contributing to your awakening.
I think you're doing the only thing you can do, trying to keep your head above water and yourself comfortable enough to rest, which you obviously need, w/o your pdoc being accessible. I know the feeling.
How long were you supposed to be on it? Did your doc say how many days or weeks you would probably need it and then 'when' he felt you should discontinue it?
Maybe talk more about 2moro.
Sometimes all I can do is what I need to do to get by, when there seems to be no one to show me or help me move in another, maybe better, direction, even when I try and search for them or the right direction. I don't mean to get all philosophical here Phillipa; sorry.

most ssri's assist with some pain and some are used for certain types of pain management. Just a thought.
I had forgotten how bad my back, neck and shoulders were until I stopped taking ssri's. It's the only thing I can contribute it to, by process of elimination. I thought it had just come good again, but I have tried almost every ssri and it wasn't until recently that I realised that my back was fairly OK while I was on them and became sore again when I came off them. Same went for back spams when coming off Valium which was no great surprise.

My PCP recommended the ole tricyclic, nortriptyline, as he treats my physical health and dabbles in my mental health.
I asked what med would assist my 'dopamine' and Wellbutrin came spilling out.
Haven't noticed any bad side effects from the Wellbutrin. I guess I may feel a little more grounded than I have been. Afa pain, I dunno.
