i have again, been on-again off-again with my lamotrigine. too out of it, too mentally paralysed to make the decision to take it.
i did restart that one time. it gave me the initial blast of whatever it is. made me better than i was before i resterted, but it was disorganized, no productivity.
now being off for a bit. finally, i think i notice being off may be causing me to feel heavier (different from my stiffness), and i am indeed even less likely to do things. i fade out into indecision and ambivalence even more right now.
it (being off) is also what is making me take more lorazepam to dislodge myself.
i took lots of coffee and 2mg lorazepam and that is how i am writing this.
i would like to know more about lamotrigine.
is there any reasons to believe that it has more than just acute energizing effects? what is it's real chemistry, is it really anti-glutamate in a good way, is it really neuroprotective?
and whoa, melanin binding, i don't understand the first thing about that? is there reliable literature on that?
i guess the big question is WHETHER I SHOULD RESTART AGAIN. could the reason that i only get meaningful acute effects be because i need to go higher that 200mg? is there any real benefit to going over 200mg, or is that when the risk of cognitive impairment or other crumby side effects starts to become an issue?

In reply to lamotrigine effects: much beyond the acute?, posted by iforgotmypassword on June 5, 2008, at 9:02:59
to try and prevent dopamine tolerance, and the sould killing anhedonic, apathetic and amotivational effects...
should i go back on lamotrigine? (200mg was last dose) stay at 200mg, or would increasing beyond 200mg cause lamotrigine's effects to beyond the acute seemingly-dopaminergic blast, and provide an ongoing pro-dopaminergic anti-tolerance effect?
i am talking about just how i seem to have a numbing tolerance to my own endogenous dopamine...
or maybe this is a dubious use of lamotrigine?
memantine, i could try again i suppose, but mega expensive...
how about just plain Mg citrate (200mg elemental Mg) 4 times a day?

Welp im on 350mg and the energizing activating effect does go away once you stabilize a dose. It definetly does have glutamate blockading properties as its main function but to be honest anything beyond that is just a guess. As far as research is concerned the drug is magic. We know in higher doses it might display very slight anti-psychotic type D2 agonism but we arent sure.
This is what i know, any sedative or anti-psychotic blunts the antidepressant effects greatly. It seems to have a synergy with stimulants. Magnesium doesnt seem to do anything to it as im currently taking 400mg of glycinate. It definetly screws with your word seeking abilities and verbal vocabulary. At 400 mg my eyes were so out of focus i literally was dyslexic, letters started switching positions.
My experiance may be unique though as i also had other complications with it such as minor paranoid psychotic features "oh god people are watching me" and minor visual/audio disturbances. I've never hallucinated in my life aside from once after taking way to much dexedrine.

As you know I don't personally think much of lamotrigine since there is very little positive research in mood disorders. I think its a bit of anecdote mixed with an under the cover off lable marketing.
Some studies show that lamotrigine has antidopaminegic properties. In some rat sudies it appears to decrease the synthesis of dopamine in striatum and other brain regions.

Why not split the dose you already have and take it twice a day? I seem to remember doing that.
This is the end of the thread.
