Nardil Tiredness

Posted by amee200 on October 10, 2008, at 20:57:31

I am new to Nardil (on it for 10 days) and am just starting to notice some effect. The mood effect is good. My mood is much more positive, I feel more social and creative, actually. However, the tired feeling is overwhelming- with a constant need to yawn and feeling like all the energy is sucked out of me. I was wondering if this subsides over time or if there is any way to counteract it. I also feel tense so I'm not sure if it's anxiety as well as tiredness, since 1/2 a klonopin did help with some of the tense feeling and yawning. Right now I take 1 15 mg pill 3 times per day (I'm on 45mg). I didn't know if anyone took the whole dose at night and if so if this is helpful. Right now insomnia is not a side effect, and my blood pressure is not lowered (my father has a blood pressure cuff that I have used to check and it is fine)...Thanks for any input!

Amee200,

Thank you for your post, and welcome to Psycho-Babble.

For me, daytime sleepiness was only a start-up side effect that I had on Nardil: it lasted about two weeks after each dose increase. Others have found daytime sleepiness on Nardil to be longer lasting. So, your mileage may vary.

It's great to hear that you're doing so well on Nardil already. Oftentimes it takes several weeks to feel Nardil's antidepressant benefits. It is, however, encouraging to hear that you're feeling something after only 10 days at a dose as low as 45 mg/day. Is your doctor planning on increasing your dose, or are you planning on staying at 45 mg/day for at least a little while?

Mid-day tiredness has been reported with Nardil. Sometimes it goes away with time; sometimes it continues. There have been attempts to counteract the tiredness by adding other medications. In your case, perhaps the clonazepam is contributing to feeling tired. Benzodiazepines can be quite sedating. I hope you continue to benefit from the Nardil and that the tiredness improves.

I don't take klonopin on a regular basis, but was trying to tell if anxiety was causing the shortness of breath or not. Which I think it is. Sp I think the klonopin is causing a combo of anxiety, tiredness. I don't know if my doctor is going to increase me or not. If I feel effects already, I would be happy to stay at the lowest effective dose.

I was wondering too if Nardil causes activation/anxiety in some people. I seem to have a weird combination of intense activation (chest and neck, shoulder tightness, trouble catching breath) and then a calm/ serense feeling that comes in waves. Has anyone else felt this? I am wondering if this is a typical early experience that too may pass...aside from the waves of serenity of course!
